I was determined to decorate my mantle for Spring. I finished most of it a week ago but only today I finished creating a new banner. This new banner was inspired by a banner that I saw displayed at the Great Junk Hunt in February at the Monroe Fairgrounds. Remember when we could go to events? I was determined to recreate it. Here is the inspiration:
I searched Etsy.com to find the bird cards. They are from an antique card game.
The original banner has silk ribbon scraps. I found that some Etsy sellers sell pieces of dyed silk that comes from recycled saris (Indian dresses). I found a colour theme that I liked and bought a bag. The other ribbon scraps are from my embarrassingly large ribbon stash. I must say, it comes in handy to have a lot of craft supplies at a time like this when you can't just run out to Michael's at a whim.
Here are some close up views of my mantle.
The pussy willows came from Trader Joe's. All the other items on the mantle came from my stash of decor items.
